A first 100% electric vacuum litter collector with robotic arm in North America

Project duration: August 2017 to june 2018

Project
Project description

Cities around the world are engaged in the fight against climate change and GHG reduction. For example, Montreal is considering replacing 250 end-of-life vehicles with 100% electric vehicles. These environmental measures undeniably drive manufacturers to rethink the manufacturing of their vehicles so that they are emission-free and meet new standards.

This is the case of Exprolink-Madvac, a company located in Longueuil that manufactures and sells the Madvac line of sweepers and vacuum. Indeed, the city of Montreal, which was already using diesel litter vacuum (Madvac LR50), informed the company of its interest in electrifying its fleet of vehicles. This is how the project to test 100% electric motorized vacuum litter collectors started.

Objectives

  • Develop a reliable and robust lithium battery solution
  • Develop a user interface via a screen for the operator
  • Set up a centralized vehicle management system via a central monitoring unit
  • Create an electrical schematic for the LR50

Expected results

The Madvac LR50 electric is unique because he is designed with all-electric components compare to other models that combine electric and hydraulic components. In addition, the product is now available on the market and the City of Montreal will soon be using them on its streets.
