Particular attention has been paid to the design of the building in order to reflect the intrinsic values of the IVI and the Cégep de Saint-Jérôme, namely sustainable development and innovation. This is why the future building will be built according to strict standards aimed at ensuring the best energy efficiency practices, while the use of sustainable local materials such as wood will be prioritized for its construction. In short, from the passive energy and ecologically responsible architecture to the integration of bioclimatic strategies and solutions, everything has been designed to minimize the building’s footprint on the environment.
This $14.3 million project received $12.7 million in government funding from the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, through the Programme de soutien aux organismes de recherche et d’innovation (Soutien au financement d’infrastructures de recherche et d’innovation – volet 4). This major investment – announced by the Minister of Economy and Innovation, Pierre Fitzgibbon, in the fall of 2019 – will allow the IVI and the Cégep de Saint- Jérôme to remain leaders in the field of innovative vehicles by responding to the growing demand from Quebec companies who wish to be supported in research, development, implementation of innovative technologies and training in the field of intelligent transportation.
The development of the new IVI facilities in the heart of Saint-Jérôme’s industrial district also reaffirms the city’s leading role in promoting the electrification of transportation for over 20 years.
